Information About Us
The Mispillion Kennel Club, Inc. is licensed by the American Kennel Club to serve dog owners in Sussex and Kent Counties of Delaware.
Our meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month during the school year at the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce. Our next meeting is scheduled for September 11, 2018. Whether your interests lie in conformation, obedience, grooming, breeding or just the love of dogs, we are sure you will find membership in the MKC rewarding and fulfilling. During the summer, meetings are held at membersí homes.
What is the makeup of the MKC membership? We have members who are dog breeders and those who are serious exhibitors at dog shows in either conformation or performance events. We also have people who own just one dog that is loved a as household pet but who have an interest in learning more about the canine world and people who became members to share their love of dogs with others who have a similar interest.
The American Kennel Club and the Mispillion Kennel Club welcome owners of mixed breeds to join our membership and encourage the dogs to be registered in the AKC Canine Partnerís Program so they can participate in exciting dog sports and participate in community service.
Dog Show and Training Classes
In addition to our annual All Breed Show and Obedience Trial held each year during November in Salisbury, Maryland, we sponsor obedience and conformation classes that are open to the public. Our teachers are people who have had experience competing in dog events as well as many years of experience in raising and training dogs.
MKC has a very active Community Outreach group that attends area events as part of its education program. We have given dog/child safety programs at local schools, libraries and civic organizations and have given seminars ranging from a few hours to several days on items of importance to dog owners.
Along with programs to educate the public about dogs, we have guest speakers at our meetings talking on subjects that range from dog health issues to rescue programs, training, breeding, dog legislation, nutrition and many other subjects of interest to dog owners. Our meetings are always open to the dog-owning public.
Since its beginning, the MKC, a non-profit organization, has been a benefactor of many different causes. MKC offers a yearly college scholarship to a Milford High School student interested in veterinary studies. Our club has purchased oxygen masks used on dogs and cats for all the fire stations in Sussex and Kent Counties. As part of the Delmarva disaster program, MKC helped to purchase a disaster relief trailer filled with supplies to handle local animals made homeless by storms and has made donations to aid animals in need due to other disasters. There is also an ongoing pet food collection program providing seniors who have financial problems with help in feeding their pets.
Mispillion AKC has been a regular supporter of Delaware Animal Shelters providing aid through the club as well as through donations from individual members. The Mispillion Kennel Club is also a Club supporter of the Canine Health Foundation and has made substantial contributions through the CHF to better the health of our dogs.
As an aid to people who are looking for a puppy or older dog, MKC has a Breeder Referral service to help people find the pure-bred dog breed of their choice.
MKC provides owners with an opportunity to discuss issues of concerns to local dog owners at its monthly meetings by making contacts with people that have similar interests. On the social side, MKC holds an annual dinner during the Christmas Holiday season and a picnic dinner during the summer
